What is rakeback and how can I get it?

When you poker for real money, the pokersite takes a small tax over each pot. This is called 'the rake'. For cashgames this tax usually amounts to 3-5% of the pot. If you play poker frequently, the amount of rake you pay can grow substantially. When you get 'rakeback' , a percentage of the rake you paid is returned to you.

In essence, rakeback is the same as a tax return, but instead of per year you'll get it every month (or sometimes every week). Lastly, you should only worry about getting rakeback when you also play enough to have paid a substantial amount of rake in the first place.

What is important when talking about rakeback?

The reliability of the poker site is the most important factor. These days, there are many poker sites that offer rakeback, but not all of them are as trustworthy. There have been several incidents (or train wrecks, depending on your frame of reference) whereby a poker site quickly established itself as a rakeback champion, offering big percentages through shadowy go-to-guys who approached players through forums and chatrooms.
